Rennbahnklinik is the Official Medical Partner of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships Basel 2021, a very important partner for the organizing committee, because more than 300 athletes from all over Europe must be given the best possible physiotherapeutic care round the clock, and also immediate care in case of an emergency. Dr. Martin, what does the commitment mean for the Rennbahnklinik?
The commitment for Basel 2021 is a triple reason for us to be happy: After almost no sports events for over a year, we are very happy for the region and for all sports in Switzerland that our country will be able again to host such a huge sports event. Furthermore, we never tire of emphasizing how much we care about regional sports and sports events our region. It is a great pleasure for us to be able to contribute. Last but not least, we are historically very much anchored in artistic gymnastics.
Which are the other connections between Rennbahnklinik and the field of artistic gymnastics?
We always have been very active in regional sports, especially in youth sports, also in artistic gymnastics: The Northwest Swiss Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline Center in Liestal (NKL) is one of our oldest partners. We have had a close partnership with the NKL since 1992. As a medical partner, we support the competitive athletes from Liestal by supervising their training sessions on site once a week. In addition, there is a weekly exchange between physiotherapists and the NKL’s sports managers to discuss health problems, abnormalities, prevention programs and treatments, among other things.
The Rennbahnklinik is well known for its innovation in sports medicine. All over, what are your core competencies, where do you clearly differentiate yourselves from other sports clinics?
The Rennbahnklinik is a leader in holistic care for active people. Our core competencies include orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy and functional diagnostics. Our roots, however, are in sports medicine: For over 35 years, our team has worked with athletes and federations in a wide variety of sports, developing the highest standards. Our patients now benefit from these advances in top-level sports medicine.
Not to forget, we are also active in the prevention of injuries and overuse injuries. The exchange with experts is valuable to expand the understanding of the different sports. Supported by exchange, science and technological progress, our functional diagnostics department is actively working to further develop innovative measurement methods. With the help of 3D motion analysis, for example, movements can be analyzed down to the deepest detail (you know it from the film and gaming industry, editor’s note). The combination of medical knowledge on our part and the sport-specific expertise of our partners not only offers a huge added value for the athletes, but also interesting scientific findings.
What are you especially looking forward to during the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships Basel 2021?
Working with the athletes and coaches is what we always enjoy the most. Hopefully the event can be with spectators and a good atmosphere!
