Interview with Sabine Horvath, Head of Division of External Affairs and Marketing of the Canton Basel-Stadt, March 2021
What importance do you attach to the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships for the city of Basel?
It’s the aim of the city of Basel to host an international sports event every two to three years. With the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, we are realising this ambition and Basel will receive international attention as a venue. We are very pleased that the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships can be held despite the pandemic – even though there won’t be any spectators. This has only been possible thanks to the good cooperation between the federations, the organising committee and the canton ob Basel.
Are you going to watch the live broadcasts on SRF and what are you especially looking forward to?
Yes, of course! I think that Artistic Gymnastics is one of the most demanding sports. I would be very happy if the Swiss team wins a few medals in the St. Jakobshalle. I’l keep my fingers crossed!
What should remain from the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships Basel 2021 once the event will be over?
My main wish is that the athletes and the spectators at television will keep our city in best memory. I also hope that everyone involved will look back joyfully on our cooperation and remember us as a reliable partner. Finally, we hope that Basel will recommend itself as a reliable and attractive host city for further major events.
